Voices for Children runs the only nonprofit children’s law center in St. Louis. Our practice focuses solely on representing abused and neglected children in St. Louis city foster care.
Our child advocacy attorneys are appointed as guardians ad litem for children in St. Louis city in foster care. These passionate attorneys appear in court every day with their young clients at their side. In court, critical decisions are made regarding a child’s immediate safety, well-being and access to services. These decisions include where the child will live, how much contact they will have with their siblings and whether they will reunify with their parents.
Integration with City CASA is a Powerful Model
The concept of a children’s law center is uncommon, only a few exist nationwide. Legal Advocates for Children and Youth is even more unique in that it is integrated with a CASA program.
Voices’ program model strengthens the “voice” of the child by leveraging the expert legal advocacy of experienced child advocacy attorneys with the depth of social advocacy of dedicated CASA advocates.
The potential impact of court proceedings on the very nature of a family is unlike any other litigation. The long-term consequences to the child of such proceedings make the role of the GAL and CASA advocate crucial at every phase of the case – in court proceedings, as well as in community settings.
